Iran- Wait What?
The Unacceptable actions of President Trump and J.D. Vance
I’ve been America First in concept since before Donald Trump took that phrase from the 1930’s era American Isolationists like Charles Lindburgh who wanted to keep America out of World War II and didn’t care that much about Fascism and Hitler. Because I’m steeped in history, having my anti globalist beliefs described in this way always made my teeth ache.
I’ve never liked President Trumps persona. I’ve understood it, I thought, as a mask, it was effective perhaps, but I never liked it. That aside, he seemed to be committed to American Labor, American Manufacturing and the idea that America should only go to war for the benefit of the American People. That is, if there was no threat to the American People that a war would resolve, or only economic loss in going into a war, we should not go.
Iran has since the Egyptian Mullahs seized control of that nation with the aid of President Carter, set as it’s goal, the centerpiece of it’s foreign policy, the destruction of the United States. To meet this goal Iran has embarked on a four decade long ballistic missile program and an atomic bomb program. It’s been no secret. They boast about it.
President Trump decided that the Iranian State was too close to building a nuclear bomb, and not negotiating in good faith, so he attacked them. He had clear war aims at the start: End the Iranian nuclear program, seize the enriched Uranium Iran had, Force Iran’s nuclear industry to be regulated by international groups, Destroy Iran’s ballistic missile program. Very clear achievable goals. Goals that a Anti War, pro America, “America First” person such as myself, could agree to without reservation.
Then things got odd. President Trump started talking about regime change and freeing the Iranian People. The People of Iran marched in the streets. Their government murdered many of them (The estimates range from 1,000 to over 40,000) President Trump promised help was on the way for them, and then did nothing. The United States betrayed the Iranian people live on global television. Not a good look.
At first the United States seemed to be winning. We were destroying every military piece of equipment Iran owned. We sunk the large ships of their navy. We took out their ballistic missile arrays. We destroyed their fighter jets. Winning. Then Iran closed the nearby international shipping lane, the Gulf of Hormuz. In return, President Trump called their bluff and embargoed all food and supplies going into Iran. The world wailed at the price of oil. The same world that said the high price of oil was worth it to “Free Ukraine” didn’t think it was worth freeing Iran. Somehow, Iran who had no surviving Navy, was able to mine the Gulf of Hormuz and interfere with shipping tankers with P.T. Boats that our navy seemed disinclined to sink for reasons that are totally unclear.
Iran began to tax boats operating in Hormuz.
Trump, seeming to have the Military upper hand, began to negotiate with whatever portions of the Iranian government Mossad had not killed. “Art of the Deal” Trump. Trump the great and brilliant, the Biglee negotiator. What did we end up with in the Memorandum of Understanding?
Nothing. None of our war goals are met. Iran has it’s entire stockpile of 60% enriched Uranium. It has no international control over that stockpile or its nuclear industry. It has only promised not to further enrich, as it has done before. Promises it has repeatedly broken in the past. There is no prevention of Iran having a ballistic missile program. There is only an agreement that Iran will not tax vessels leaving Hormuz for a sixty day period. The Iranian People are certainly not free, and now we have identified all the dissidents for their secret police. Mossad has expended and in many cases exposed it’s agents operating in Iran. Many Iranians who collaborated with the United States in this war now face death. We are going to pay to rebuild Iran. President Trump announced a great Victory. The Iranian Government boast that it has defeated the Great Satan the United States. By every metric not in Donald Trumps inflated ego, it has.
The Israelis, who live in the Middle East and with the constant threat of nuclear vaporization have expressed in very clear terms the extent of this geopolitical failure by President Trump. A failure Trump inflicted upon the United States and our regional allies. Vice President J.D. Vance, tore after the Israelis and said in Basic- we are the schoolyard bully that protects you. Shut up or get pounded. Good Job J.D., I’ll be supporting someone else in 2028.
I don’t know what it would have taken to achieve Donald Trumps war goals. No one has ever outlined that to the American public, if anyone ever calculated that. I do know that although now the Iranian State is wounded it believes we have been defeated, that Allah has given them a great victory over the Evil Satan who is too stupid to understand he has lost.
Iran will continue it’s Nuclear program, all promises aside. Iran will continue to assassinate dissidents. Iran will rebuild it’s ballistic missile program. Iran in sixty-one days will start to tax international shipping going through Hormuz. Only in Donald Trumps graf zeppelin sized gas bag of an ego can this be imagined as a victory.
The left have a saying and it’s one I used to find unjust- TACO. Trump Always Chickens Out. It’s true, we don’t know what the cost of victory would have been, but it seems no one in the Trump Administration calculated that before we attacked. No one asked “What happens if they embargo the oil?” :What happens if we crush their weapons and they don’t surrender?” “What happenes if we are forced into a ground game scenario?” No one asked, or if they did, no one answered.
Sane people don’t attack an enemy without considering these sorts of issues. The Iranians and the Israelis are right about the outcome of this war.
